COLOR(S) OF THE YEAR

Posted on

Every year, Pantone, the world’s authority on color, embarks upon the task of determining and announcing a color of the year. Presented every winter, the color for the following year is meant not only to capture fashion trends but also to act symbolically, reflecting a cultural mood.

This year, for the first time ever, the color experts selected a paring of shades as the color(s) of 2016. Rose Quartz, a soft pink, and Serenity, a pale blue, are meant to be paired in the spotlight. The balance and duality of the two together are critical in understanding the purpose behind this year’s choice.

Leatrice Eisemen, the Exectutive Director of Pantone Color Institute, has this today about the selection: “Joined together Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”

As a nod toward gender equality, Pantone intends to challenge perceptions of color. They hope to inspire creatives from all walks of life to use color this year as a means of expression in unexpected ways.

Whether through apparel, home décor, cosmetics, or hair color, every consumer can, and should, be inspired by Pantone’s message of confidence, order and peace with one’s self in 2016.
